2.7.11

on monday we rented a car and drove 45 minutes to san juan
(puerto rico's capital).

i loved the streets of old san juan.

catedral de san juan

"el morro"
is a fort that was built in the early 1500's to protect san juan
from invaders coming in ships en route to the new world from
europe. it's massive and impressive!

this is the restaurant we ate at for lunch,
"cafe del punto". we shared an order of "mofongo",
a traditional puerto rican dish. a must, if you go!
it was dilicioso! (Monfongo is made by mashing
tostones (twice fried plantains) with garlic, olive oil, and bacon.)
ours came with chicken on top and was served with a side of
rice and beans. yummy!!! i hope to attempt to make it soon.

the other thing that i loved about old san juan were the doors

after walking around all day we went back to the hotel
and relaxed on the beach. johnny got in the water, it was
too cold for me. it looked fun though.
