so my babe is still not feeling well and today is his birthday.
this is why there is only a picture of his birthday dinner, which
i was very happy that he felt good enough to eat. he requested
breakfast with "real bacon".

2.12.11

to celebrate johnny's birthday we met josh and liz at roy's. liz is not a seafood fan and so we were very happy that she came with us. we enjoyed each other's company and the delicious food. i had butterfish, johnny and josh had sea bass and liz had what i think was steak...i'm not sure, she asked them to prepare it "burnt". the sushi rolls were amazing and of course their flourless chocolate cake for desert was divine as always. johnny wasn't feeling all that great after dinner so we went home.

2.11.11

johnny and connor went to red rock for an overnighter
with the older scouts from our ward. it was a cold night
and i don't think either of them slept hardly at all.

connor came home excited to tell me about
the huge carcase of some type he spotted.
he made a thin mint smore and ate a fire
roasted licorice. that boy loves to camp!

2.7.11

on monday we rented a car and drove 45 minutes to san juan
(puerto rico's capital).

i loved the streets of old san juan.

catedral de san juan

"el morro"
is a fort that was built in the early 1500's to protect san juan
from invaders coming in ships en route to the new world from
europe. it's massive and impressive!

this is the restaurant we ate at for lunch,
"cafe del punto". we shared an order of "mofongo",
a traditional puerto rican dish. a must, if you go!
it was dilicioso! (Monfongo is made by mashing
tostones (twice fried plantains) with garlic, olive oil, and bacon.)
ours came with chicken on top and was served with a side of
rice and beans. yummy!!! i hope to attempt to make it soon.

the other thing that i loved about old san juan were the doors

after walking around all day we went back to the hotel
and relaxed on the beach. johnny got in the water, it was
too cold for me. it looked fun though.

2.6.11

he was just chillin' with all of us at the pool;
he was huge!!!

our toughest choice of the day...
pool or beach.
both were only 20 feet from each other
so we gave in and did both

2.5.11

this is a little bakery right down the hill from the resort...
it was yummy.
we ordered sandwiches to take with us on our
hike in the "el yunque" rainforest.

this is the rain forest. it was beautiful. we hiked to the
waterfall and on the way back it started to pour;
just like in the movies. it was totally clear and then
wham...pouring rain, in a matter of 30 seconds, we were drenched.
it was awesome!

2.4.11

we landed in ft. lauderdale around midnight and didn't
leave for puerto rico until after 8am.
johnny slept on the floor, i slept in a chair

this is where we lived for 5 days

our first day there we took a nap, checked out the facilities
of our hotel and then ate dinner at the tiki bar outside by
the beach. we were starving
